Christian.net 2.0

Welcome to the new (and hopefully improved) Christian.net site!
I know that it may take a while for folks to get used to the new look and feel, but I hope you’ll all eventually agree that’s it’s cleaner, more modern, and more functional.

I’ve been hard at work re-forming Christian.net into more of a social networking site, while trying to maintain all the key features that made the old site so popular. So we still have free email (including webmail, POP, IMAP, and SMTP), free web hosting, forums, chat, online bibles, etc.
But now Christian.net includes several new features:
- Member “walls” where you can post status updates, add and follow friends, post photos and videos, and so on, much like Facebook.
- The ability to create and join “groups” (similar in concept to Facebook groups or fan pages)
- Private messaging (sort of like email, but only for use amongst members, and separate from the full blown email services we provide)
- See if your friends are on-line and chat or even play games
- More powerful web hosting based on WordPress - create your own site or blog based on hundred of available themes and plugins.
- A blog (you’re reading it now) for announcements and ramblings.
Please note that the creation of sites and blogs is currently disabled while I finish up some more testing.

Is there any chance my stored mail will return or is it gone forever?
It will be back. If it wasn’t for a critical problem at work today (that will keep me here all night rebuilding servers) I’d have done it today. I’m sorry, I know it’s inconvenient (although you should still be able to access it via the old site).
All in all this is great for those who are computer savvy. Me I am in dunce 101, and didn’t know I was going to loose all my email contacts in my address book. Hope I can find those that were the most important, so far no luck.
Wishing every one the best. By the way I am the female in the family who only gets on the computer when I absolutely have to. God Bless
You should be able to access the old webmail program on the old web site. I’ll see if I can transfer contacts from the old site to the new one as soon as I have a chance.
I think you guys have done a fine job on this page….and you’ve suceeded
in hiding the icons so I can’t them, which wouldn’t have been very hard LOL
Hiya. Which icons are you referring to? If you mean all the smilies in the forums, those are gone for now until I can write a custom plugin for the new forum software to add them back.
Those are the ones I was meanin’ Thanks Mark:-)
Would my email address stay the same or change? I am doing a lot of business on Craigs List and customers are trying to reach me.
Is it correct to assume the email address would look like
yourusername@christian.net
Your email address won’t change (unless you create a new account under a different username). It’s still yourusername@christian.net The only thing that would change is the webmail interface, and how you configure your external mail program (like Outlook, Thunderbird, etc) to fetch mail (if you even use one that is).
I know that things are in transition, but I can’t get to mail on either site.
The old site says that the mail file may be open in another session
and the new site sends me to “forums” whenever I try to get to webmail.
You should be able to open mail on both sites, although any new mail will only show up on the new site now. That message on the old site is likely due to my importing process that’s currently running (the old site’s POP server software only allows one connection to an account at a time). What you describe on the new site is odd though. Try clearing your browser’s web cache and see if that helps.
I haven’t been able to access email. I have logged in, but my name and password are not accepted
Email services are in transition. They can’t work on both the new and the old site simultaneously. This week I will reroute all email to the new site and copy everyone’s mailboxes over, and then people will have to check their mail here instead of the old site. I will post when that happens, but until then continue to check mail on the old site (http://old.christian.net)
Great work right there. Thanks Mark and God bless.
I like the new look. It will take some time to find where everything is and get it figured out, but I believe it will be well worth it. Thanks for all the hard work you do, Mark.
