Help / Markup Codes

Markup codes are tags (similar to HTML) that you can type into your messages that will affect how the text looks. There are tags to turn on/off bolding, italics, underlining, colors, etc.

Most tags come in pairs and surround the text that they apply to. For example, if you were to type '[b]bold text[/b]', the reader of your message would see 'bold text'. The [b] and [/b] tags turn bold lettering on and off. Note that the 'off' tag always has a leading slash character.

Markup codes can be used in message board posts, chat rooms, your signature, and your profile description.

Note that markup codes are meaningless in e-mail messages, since other systems won't know how to interpret them.

[list]...[/list]
These tags mark the beginning and ending of a list of items. Each item between these tags must start with the [*] code.

For example, typing this:

[list] [*]One [*]Two [*]Three [/list]

Will display this:

  • One
  • Two
  • Three

[center]...[/center]
These tags CENTER the text.

[right]...[/right]
These tags RIGHT JUSTIFY the text.

Note that there is no [LEFT] tag, since text is left justified by default.

[COLOR]...[/COLOR]
These tags turn colors on and off. COLOR can be one of: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Cyan, Pink, Brown, Lightgreen, Lightblue, Magenta

For example, typing this:

[red]C[/red][orange]O[/orange][yellow]L[/yellow][green]O[/green][blue]R[/blue]

[quote]...[/quote]
These tags are normally used to quote content from another message. The enclosed text will look like this:

This is a quote.

[img=URL]
This tag allows you to embed an image. Replace the URL part with an URL that points to the image. For example, if you type this:

[img=http://christian.net/images/logo.jpg]

You'd see this:

[flag=COUNTRY]
This tag displays the flag of the specified country. Examples:

[flag=Canada] would display

[flag=United Kingdom] would display

[flag=USA] would display

[sb=icon text]
This is a fun little gizmo that you won't find on any other system. It allows you to create your own custom 'speech balloon' icons. You must first specify an icon (from the Icons & Smilies list), followed by a space, then a brief message. A custom icon will be created on the fly that adds a speech balloon to the icon containing your message.

For example, if you enter [sb=smile Good morning!] you'd see this custom icon: Good morning!

Note that messages must be brief or they will be truncated. Not every icon is suitable for speech balloons and you might run across some that just don't look right.

[sign=text]
This is similar to speech balloons shown above, except no icon is used and your message is displayed on a small sign.

For example, if you enter [sign=Post no bills] you'd see this custom icon: Post no bills

[url=URL]...[/url]
These tags allow you to create a link that points to a specific web address. Replace the ADDRESS part with a web address. For example, if you type this:

Click [url=http://christian.net]here[/url]!

You'd see this: Click here!

Embedding Links
Any standard E-Mail address that you type will be automatically converted into a link, which means people will be able to click on them. For example, if you were to type in 'admin@christian.net' it would be replaced with a link like this: 'admin@christian.net'

Likewise, the software will recognise web addresses like 'http://christian.net' and convert them to clickable links like 'http://christian.net'. This works for anything that begins with http://, https://, ftp://, and so on.

Web addresses that start with 'www.' are also converted, so 'www.christian.net' becomes 'www.christian.net'.

Bible References
Bible references in messages are automatically detected and turned into clickable links. When you click on one, a small pop-up window appears containing the verse(s). You can choose from many translations and languages. Click on this verse to see it in action: John 3:16.
