This teaching concerns biomedical techniques which make it possible to intervene in the initial phase of the life of a human being and in the very processes of procreation and their conformity with the principles of Catholic morality. [Ask for "RespectForLife"] "Famous Medical Oaths Through History" - presents 13 different medical oaths from different cultures and times, sorted by antiquity. Presents an interesting view of how medical practitioners up to the 20th century were expected to guard and protect all human life. Founded in 1992, the NWCL is an umbrella organization for national women's groups that oppose abortion. The NWCL statement of commitment is also included. [Ask for "NWCLaddresses"] "A New Ethic for Medicine And Society" - The famous editorial from _California Medicine_ explianing how society is replacing the traditional Western life ethic with an ethic based on the relative quality of life. This is an eye-opening and candid discussion of relative morals, as it was intended to call all physicians and medical professionals to embrace ethical values based on the relative quality of life. [Ask for "CaliforniaMedicine"] "Dred Scott, Again" - A transcript of the speech given by Robert P. Casey, Governor of Pennsylvania at the 1993 conference on abortion and public policy. Casey addresses the relationship of the public servant and the constitution, especially with respect to the infamous _Roe v. Wade_ and _Dred Scott_ decisions. [Ask for "AmericanHolocaust"] "To Protect the Reproductive Rights of Women" - THE Freedom Of Choice Act, (FOCA - S. 25) as presented to the Senate in 1991 and again in 1993. This file has been updated to include the amendments made in 1993 which change the language, but do not substantially change the effects of the bill. This radical bill would make abortion legal in every state throughout pregnancy. States would not be permitted to legislate any restrictions on abortion except those restrictions that prove to be 'medically necessary'. Includes a short commentary, as well as related articles from back issues of the ProLife News. [Ask for "MADact"] A short (1993 only) version is also available. [Ask for "FOCA1993"] "Thinking Ethically about Technology" by John Hass. A Primer in ethics from a renowned philosopher; discusses many recent technological advances, and excplains why most modern people are ineffective at being able to discuss their moral value. Excellent reading for those interested in getting a better grasp on ethics and morals. [Ask for "JohnHass"] "Condom Failure for Protection from Sexual Transmission of the HIV: A Review of the Medical Literature" by David Collart, Ph.D. An extremely well-documented presentation of the medical evidence that shows that condom use is statistically ineffective in preventing HIV transfer during sexual contact. Very useful for convincing one abstinence is the only effective means to prevent the transmission of the HIV. [Ask for "HIV+Condoms"] A shorter version is also available. [Ask for "CondomFailure"] The dissent of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Scalia in the 'PP vs. Casey' (1992) decision. This is a complete copy of the dissent, including footnotes. To quote the introduction: "The States may, if they wish, permit abortion-on-demand, but the Constitution does not require them to do so. The permissibility of abortion, and the limitations upon it, are to be resolved like most important questions in our democracy: by citizens trying to persuade one another and then voting." [Ask for "ScaliaDissent"] "Contrived Publicity for the Abortion Pill" a detailed account of the medical implications of RU-486 use. From the November, 1992 "Medical Moral Newsletter" Excellent summary, with great references. News related to RU-486 from back issues of the newsletter has been appended for futher reference. [Ask for "RU-486".] "Et Tu, Justice Kennedy?" a commentary and legal assesment by Russell Hittinger. Discusses what really happened in the Casey vs Planned Parenthood (1992) decision from a Conservative Catholic viewpoint. Very informative as to the workings of the Court, the aftermath of the decision, and the implications that Casey may have on future Supreme Court rulings. [Ask for "RusselHittinger". ] "Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act" - the text of the bill proposed before the 103rd Congress to "assure freedom of access to clinic entrances." Proposed in February, 1993 to make it a federal crime to block the entrance of abortion clinics. [Ask for "HR796".] "Sex Education that Really Works" - from a 1991 ALL About Issues submission by Edward Gehringer. Describes the successes of abstinence-based sex education, the relavent and recent studies, and the difficulties that promotors of abstinence-based curricula face. Easy reading, with great references. [ Ask for "AbstinenceWorks". ] "New American Compact - Caring About Women, Caring for the Unborn" - from a statement that appeared as a full-page advertisement in the New York Times during the Democratic Convention in July 1992. It is a well thought- out and well written statment of the Pro-Life position. [Ask for "NewAmericanCompact"] "Planned Parenthood Corporate Supporters" - listing of the known corp- orate supporters of the nations leading abortion promoter, The Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Published at the 1992 Arizona RTL Convention. [ Ask for "PPContributors" ] "The Durham Declaration: To United Methodists on Our Church and Abortion" - issued February, 1990 An excellent presentation of why Christians are pro-life, and what steps the Church should take in promoting life-ethics. [ Ask for "DurhamDeclaration" ] "Why Christians Oppose Abortion" - A Scriptural approach to why Christians oppose the destruction of the unborn child. A straight-forward biblically-based apologetic for Christians to understand why followers of Christ oppose abortion. [ Ask for "WhyChristians"] "The Courage to Oppose Abortion" - Text of a speech delivered at the American Colegians for Life 1992 Leadership Conference Banquet. Aimed at college students, this speach is a rousing call for college pro-lifers to understand both their predicament, and their mission.
