There was one issue that had already been presented on countless synod meetings, and the authors received a note with the urgent request to stop it. The most dragging issue concerned a supposed "typo" in a synod resolution of the eighties. The authors stated that a "that" was printed in the text, while a "this" was meant-it was, in their opinion, not just about a printing error, but concerned the teachings of the church. Synod president Rev. H.J. Boiten expressed hope that this issue would no longer surface, and supported the idea of sending a note beseeching the authors by letter to stop bothering the synod with their request. NR #1999-037: For Immediate Release: GKN-v General Synod Sends Ceaseless Complainants a Note to Cease and Desist Copyright (C)1999 Nederlands Dagblad, with additional synod reports Translated by Simone Kennedy Distributed by United Reformed News Service LEUSDEN, THE NETHERLANDS (April 26, 1999) URNS - Seriousness, respect, laughter, but also irritation was observable April 25 when the Vrijgemaakte synod dealt with issues that were brought forward by individual church members. There was one issue that had already been presented on countless synod meetings, and the authors received a note with the urgent request to stop it. All of the five issues were dismissed, as the synod concluded that they were not presented properly to the synod, sidestepping church laws. The most dragging issue concerned a supposed "typo" in a synod resolution of the eighties. The authors stated that a "that" was printed in the text, while a "this" was meant-it was, in their opinion, not just about a printing error, but concerned the teachings of the church. The recurrent issue is if there has been a printing error in the minutes of Heemse in the resolution concerning the teachings of the Rev. Hoorn. The General Synod of Spakenburg in 1987, as well as the General Synod of Ommen in 1993 and the General Synod of Berkel en Rodenrijs in 1996 have already dealt with this issue. The 1996 position was reiterated that there had not been a printing error. The request to correct this supposed error was not granted, nor was the request to pronounce that the 1996 synod had been wrong in refusing to deal with a letter written by the author. The Rev. P. H. van der Laan was very annoyed with this. He warned the synod members that they could shortly expect letters and phone calls from those authors, as he had experienced in the past. "Is there any guarantee that this will end?" He commented that this issue had again claimed "200 guilders of synod time." [US $96] The minister proposed to beseech the authors by letter to stop bothering the synod with their request. Synod president Rev. H.J. Boiten expressed hope that this issue would no longer surface, and supported the idea of sending a note.
