The word translated here "the sacrifice which removes the sin" is a techinical term refering to the cover of the Ark of the Cove nant, which stood for God's presence among His people. Located in the Holy of Holies in God's Temple, it was the place where the High Priest poured the blood of the sacrifice made so that the sins of God's people might be forgiven. In this verse, Paul uses the image of God as High Priest, pouring the blood of Jesus on the Cover of the Ark of the Covenant, to forgive the sin of all who believe in power of this sacrifice. This Cover is also known as the Mercy Seat, or God's Gracious Throne. For a similar thought, see hebrews04:14.
