20 Prayers for Marriage

1. Prayer for Unity in Marriage

Unity is an essential theme in any prayer for marriage because marriage is a union between man and woman that God has deemed as holy. Through marriage, husbands and wives are considered as one flesh.

Dear God, we pray for unity in our marriage. In areas where the enemy tries to divide us – our finances, time, priorities, we pray that we remain united and draw close to You. Make us one, Lord, in every area and every decision. Let our union also exude Your presence and grow in us as a testimony of Your faithfulness. Amen.

2. Prayer for Strength in Marriage

Doing life together as a married couple is never easy. There will be times when your marriage wavers in conflicts. Therefore, asking God for strength in marriage is a compulsory prayer for married couples.

Dear Lord, today, we surrender our marriage to You. We are both emotionally and mentally drained and it has become so increasingly difficult to endure the hardships. But Lord, we know that You are the Lord over our marriage. In You, all things are possible. Therefore, hear our prayer, Lord. Strengthen us that we may become each other’s comfort and support. When we have You as our rock and fortress, we can get through the difficult seasons together. Renew in us the strength to fight for our marriage and one another. In Jesus’s name, I pray, Amen.

3. Prayer for Forgiveness in Marriage

In your prayer for marriage, we encourage you to pray for forgiveness as well. During times of anger and frustration, we might say the wrong words to hurt our spouse. But prayers for forgiveness are powerful. Ask God to enlighten you that you may know what you have done wrong. Pray that both of your hearts be open to forgiveness for we’ve sworn to love our spouse for better or for worse.

Dear God, I come here humbled before You. You are a gracious and forgiving God and Your compassion never runs out. May we be able to live as a reflection of You both in words and actions. Teach us to forgive one another as You have forgiven us. Let us bear no resentment to one another. May we strengthen one another in love and forgiveness. Thank you, Lord, Amen.

4. Prayer for Intimacy

Intimacy goes beyond the physical. For a strong marriage, couples should also share emotional and spiritual intimacy. In your daily prayer for marriage, remind one another to also pray for deeper intimacy between you and your spouse. Here is a prayer for husband and wife:

Lord Jesus, we thank You that You have given us to each other in marriage and we pray that Your plan for us to be one flesh would be expressed in every area of life. Starting with our vows and commitments to each other, we pray for purity. We pray that we would honor each other completely and that we would put each other’s needs in front of our own. Lord, grow a trusting relationship between us that would be unbreakable. We pray that when others look at us they will see You in us and a closeness in our union that doesn’t come from the world. Reveal any false intimacy in our relationship and replace it with exactly what You had in mind when You created us for each other.

[Husband]

Father, help me to love my wife as You love me and to give up even my life if You call me to do so. Until then, help me to die in any selfish way that would keep my wife from trusting and following me as I follow You.

[Wife]

Lord, help me to respect my husband and trust that he has the good of our family in mind with every decision he makes. Help me to follow him as he follows You. Make us one as You are one.
