Worry is one of the enemy’s greatest weapons used against us. It hinders us from living a life of joy and peace through Jesus Christ. God wants us to live a life free from any worries because we have Christ in us. God gives us the richness of his abiding grace and presence. He gives a promise that he will supply our needs. And even though we may experience different hardships along the way, He will be with us in every step we take in our lives. When we focus on our worries, it means we sin because of our lack of faith in Him. We are doubting God’s capabilities. And it may end with us, reducing our ability to trust God.

One of the privileges Christians enjoy is living a worry-free life. But does that mean that we no longer face any difficulties? No, we put our faith in God. Instead of wasting our energy by worrying, we should spend our time praying to Him. A prayer is a powerful tool we can use against our fears and anxieties. It also allows us to depend more on God. He tells us not to worry for tomorrow as it will worry for itself (Matthew 6:34).

Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Before worry consumes us, we should seek God above everything else. God is in control of everything. He knows what we need, and He is willing to give it to us. We can find peace and security as we hold on to his word. We know that in the end, God’s plans and promises for our lives will prevail. So focus and fix our eyes on God first.

Jesus Teaches About Worry

Worrying causes us to be stagnant. Instead of moving forward, fear and anxiety attack us; they make us freeze in fear. Jesus tells us that life is greater than our needs. For him, our relationship with our Father is more important than anything else. He wants us to put our unwavering faith in him.

Matthew 6:25-34

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

God is a great provider. Even before we ask, he already knows what we need, and he will give it to us at the right time. What God wants us to do is to seek first his kingdom and righteousness. It means that we should put God first in our lives. We should fill our thoughts with God’s desires and take his character in our pattern. And, we need to serve and obey him in everything.

Luke 12:29 – 31

And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

Planning for tomorrow is a time well-spent. On the other hand, worrying about tomorrow is a waste of time. As we think of our goals, steps, and schedules for the next day, we should trust God’s guidance. It can help us alleviate our worries. By contrast, those who worry are consumed by fear and find it difficult to trust in God. They let their plans interfere with their relationship with God. We shouldn’t let our worries about tomorrow affect our relationship with God today. These Bible verses about worry are great reminders for us to look into God more.

God is the Great Shepherd

We can easily let go of all our worries when we follow and depend on someone who will give us security. We should be wise enough to follow the one who leads us to the right pastures and in the right ways (Isaiah 40:11).

In Psalm 23, David described the Lord as a shepherd. As he was a shepherd during his early years, he recognized that God is the great shepherd. Sheep are completely dependent on the shepherd for guidance, provision, and protection. Since we are His sheep, we are not just frightened, passive animals, but obedient followers.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

We can have contentment when we allow God to guide us. Trusting God can also lessen our burdens. He knows the green meadows and peaceful streams that will restore us. We will find and reach these places when we follow him obediently. When death fears us, we have nothing to worry about because God will walk with us. He will be with us as we cross the dark valley of death until we safely reach the other side. God offers us his protection even when the enemies surround us.

Life may bring us uncertainties. However, when we follow God and put our faith in him, we will find eternal comfort. He is the perfect shepherd and host. God promised to guide and protect us throughout our lives and bring us into his house forever.

Fear exists on two scales; small and large. It is inevitable. Sometimes, it consumes us as we think about what the future holds. However, we shouldn’t let our fears replace God as the center of our hearts and minds. It keeps us from obediently following God and his word. Don’t let our fears and worries control us. As we walk into the unknown, we can keep in mind these Bible verses about worry. God’s word gives us hope to ease our fears.

God is in control of our lives. And he loves us perfectly for God is love. We can resolve all our fears when we look at His immeasurable love. His love will silence our fears and give us the confidence to move forward. As we do that, we should also secure our faith in our powerful God.

With all the uncertainties around us, it is unavoidable for us to get anxious about a lot of things. We have anxieties about our jobs, our homes, and even at school. However, Jesus commands us not to worry about our lives. Worrying is pointless because, in the end, it can’t fulfill any of our needs. God promised to provide and sustain us with our needs. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
