The world that we live in is treacherous. It is unreliable. We often hear news about cataclysmic calamities affecting thousands of people. We hear about floods, hurricanes, earthquakes and other disasters that are devastating different parts of the globe. Moreover, various news of criminality, corruption, and illegality remains rampant in all countries. These dangers may alarm us and probe our faith. Yet, during these seasons of darkness and evil, we must all the more trust God for our protection. We can still find serenity despite the difficulties of this world. Include prayers for protection to your daily prayers to keep your faithful lives firm and calm.
Prayers for Safety And Security
In an unstable and precarious world, our God remains our strength, protection, refuge, and strong tower. He is the unshaken and unchanging foundation of our lives and faith. With God, we shall not be moved nor shaken (Psalm 62:6). In Him, we have the assurance of security and safety. Our lack of knowledge of what might come next allows us to have our faith stretched. This is how He turns unfortunate events into a meaningful season of transformation. May we find peace and security with these amazing prayers for protection and safety:
David sang this song to the Lord on the day the Lord rescued him from all his enemies and from Saul. He sang:
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior;
my God is my rock, in whom I find protection.
He is my shield, the power that saves me,
and my place of safety.
He is my refuge, my savior,
the one who saves me from violence.
I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and he saved me from my enemies.
“The waves of death overwhelmed me;
floods of destruction swept over me.
The grave wrapped its ropes around me;
death laid a trap in my path.
But in my distress I cried out to the Lord;
yes, I cried to my God for help.
He heard me from his sanctuary;
my cry reached his ears.
— David’s Song of Praise (2 Samuel 22:3-7)
Lord God, heavenly Father,
you know that we are set
in the midst of so many and great dangers,
that by reason of the frailty of our nature
we cannot always stand upright:
Grant us such strength and protection,
to support us in all danger,
and carry us through all temptations;
through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
— Martin Luther, the German Litany
You, O Master of all, lend you ear and hear us. We know your undefeatable love for your creation and your inexhaustible goodness. Hence, we throw ourselves into the ocean of your compassions and entreat you: turn not your face from us nor cast us away from your countenance neither hand us over to those who are so furiously attacking us. Look upon us with your compassionate eye. Show us how to rise above both the visible and invisible enemies.
Place in us a power from on high; encompass us with your almighty right hand; keep us under the protection of your wings; fortify us with love for one another and grant us unshakable peace. But before all and above all, instill in us your fear and your love that your holy name may also be glorified in us. Upon you alone we look, on you alone, we have placed our hopes, and to you, we send up the glory, together with your Father, who is without beginning, and the life-creating Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
— St. Gregory of Palamas in Voices in the Wilderness
O Lord, Thou who steadied the hand of Peter as he began to sink on the stormy sea, if Thou are with me, no one is against me. Grant to me the shield of faith and the mighty armor of the Holy Spirit to protect me and guide me to do Thy will. The future I put into Thy hands, O Lord, and I follow Thee to a life in Christ. Amen
— Saint Mary Magdalene Orthodox Church
Lord God, heavenly Father,
whether we wake or sleep,
live or die, we are yours.
Take care of me.
Do not let me fall into destruction by the works of darkness.
Let the light of your face arise in my heart,
that by faith, true knowledge of you may increase in my soul,
and that I may continually do your will.
Guard and defend me against every deception of the evil one.
Preserve me from all evil visions and horrid dreams,
and let me rest peacefully in you this night,
and arise tomorrow in joy and health to fulfill my calling,
to the glory of your holy name.
Amen.

Prayers for Protection From Evil
The enemy has come to steal, to kill, and to destroy (John 10:10). Evil intends to destroy us in any manner. If he can’t knock us down by destruction, he will pull us down by temptation. Whatever it takes, the enemy will always try to harm us and get us away from God. But, the Lord promised us that no weapon formed against the children of God will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Overcome the works of the enemy with powerful prayers for protection.
O God,
you do not desire the death of a sinner.
Protect with your heavenly aid
those who may now be exposed to special temptations.
Grant that in the fulfillment of your commandments
they may be strengthened by the assistance of your grace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
— Gregorian Sacramentary
O God,
Shepherd of all your people,
deliver us from all sins which assail us,
that so we may always be pleasing in your sight,
and safe under your shelter;
for Christ’s sake. Amen.
— Roman Breviary, 11th Century
O Lord, raise up we pray Thee Thy power and come to deliver us, that, we, who are oppressed by temptations, may be so defended by Thy might, that the hosts of the enemy may never prevail against us; Hear us of Thy mercy, O Lord Christ, Who, with the father and the Holy Ghost, livest and reignest, ever one God, world without end. Amen
— Mozarabic Collects, Ancient Liturgy of The Spanish Church

we seek the shelter of your protection.
Defend us from all evils,
that we may serve you in peace and quietness of spirit;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
— Roman Breviary, 11th Century
Lord God,
heavenly Father,
you sent your Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
into this world
to destroy the works of the devil,
and to protect us poor people
against such an evil foe.
Protect us.
Keep us safe.
Uphold us in all affliction
by your Holy Spirit
so that we may have peace from such enemies
and remain forever blessed;
through your Son,
Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit,
one true God,
now and forever.
Amen.

Prayers for Protection, Shield, and Fortification
The Lord is our mighty fortress, a strong tower, and ever-present defense. He guards each of us against the adversaries’ evil schemes. He shields us away from the thorn of unrighteousness and sins. When darkness tries to devour us, His light shines greater. When hardship tries to break us, His hands hold us even tighter. In difficult times, His help never fails. Jesus is our hiding place and we can always find whatever we will need during times of trouble.
These prayers for protection and fortification may help you when a season of inconvenience comes:
O Christ,
my Creator and Redeemer,
almighty Lord God,
forgive the sins of all
who are joined to me by friendship or blood,
and for whom I pray, or have resolved to pray, —
and all your faithful people.
Deliver them from all evil,
preserve them in all good,
and bring them to eternal joy;
for your honor and glory. Amen.
— Gregorian Sacramentary
O God,
you are the healer
of soul and body.
Save us
and make us whole.
Even when
we suffer
under all our sickness
and all our infirmity,
help us overcome
the temptations of the enemy
by your strength;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
— The Priest’s Prayerbook, freely modified
Lord God, heavenly Father,
since that evil spirit, the devil,
always prowls around like a roaring lion,
seeking to devour us,
you want to shield us
by your dear holy angels
from all of his cunning and terror,
for your dear Son’s sake.
Through your Holy Spirit,
give us repentant hearts,
that we may serve you
in all soberness and vigilance;
through Jesus Christ,
your dear Son,
our Lord.
Amen.
— Die pommersche Kirchen-Ordnung und Agenda (translated)
Hear us, holy Lord,
Father almighty,
everlasting God,
and send your holy angels from heaven
to guard, cherish, protect, visit
and defend all who dwell in this house;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
— Gelasian Sacramentary
O good Shepherd,
look mercifully on your flock,
and do not let the sheep
which you redeemed with your precious blood
to be torn to pieces
by the assaults of the devil.
— Leonine Sacramentary
Prayers for Protection From Natural Disasters
Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, and other calamities are part of the fallen world. God has the power to deliver us from the destruction these disasters might bring. Our God remains to be a merciful God whatever happens. This identity of God never ceases nor changed. Ask these prayers for protection when natural calamities strike:
God of the heavens: nature and all that You have created are truly awesome. Often, we; take these wonders for granted. Teach us to cherish all of your gifts.
Try as we might, we know that we cannot control the oceans, the mountains, the weather. We also firmly believe that ever since the time of Noah, You do not send floods, make the earth shake, or dispatch weather formations, such as hurricanes, as warnings or punishments.
So we ask, as this hurricane approaches land and approaching our brothers and sisters, that You shelter all who will be in its path. Watch over everyone, their loved ones, friends, and fellow people, many of whom are preparing to evacuate. Guard them as they prepare, perhaps to leave their homes again. Give them strength, courage, and resolve to ride out this storm; answer their prayers and ours that they be blessed with goodness and be spared from harm.
Blessed are You, Source of Life and Nature, whose awesome power and strength fill our world and inspire us to be strong in the face of all of life’s difficulties.
— Rabbi Fred Guttman
Lord, please be with the rescue workers and keep them safe as they make heroic efforts in dangerous situations to rescue those in trouble.
And Lord, please be with everyone waiting to be rescued, keep them safe, and bring help to them soon.
God, bless each and every person affected by this storm and surround them with Your love, protection, and angels. Let them know there are millions of us out here praying for them and their loved ones. We give You all the praise and glory forever, Lord, and know that even in the darkest hours, You are always with us.
— Prayer for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina
Lord, at times such as this,
when we realize that the ground beneath our feet
is not as solid as we had imagined,
we plead for your mercy.
As the things we have built crumble about us,
we know too well how small we truly are
on this ever-changing, ever-moving,
fragile planet we call home.
Yet you have promised never to forget us.
Do not forget us now.
— Prayer for the people of Haiti after the 2010 earthquake
May the cross of the Son of God,
which is mightier than all the hosts of Satan
and more glorious than all the hosts of heaven,
abide with you in your going out and in your coming in.
By day and by night, at morning and at evening,
at all times and in all places may it protect and defend you.
From the wrath of evildoers, from the assaults of evil spirits,
from foes visible and invisible, from the snares of the devil,
may it guard, protect and deliver you.
Amen.
— Christaraksha, India
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You, Lord, for loving me and reminding me of Your Truth. Help me keep my eyes on You, especially in times of rejection. May I remember that You can use all things for my good and Your glory. Give me a heart that trusts, and take away the desire to lean on my own understanding. Thank You for Your protection, provision, and presence! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
— Kill Beran
