The season of Lent is commonly known as a ’40 day fast’ in Christianity. If you already did not know, Lent is inspired by the story of Jesus, where He prayed and fasted for 40 days in the desert, resisting temptations from the devil by staying faithful and obedient to God (Matthew 1:1-11). Fasting during Lent can be physical fasting where we fast from our favorite food or material fasting where we fast from our usual go-to routines that might have inbuilt several bad habits. The Lenten season is usually a time for many of us to try to cut out the bad habits in our lives. However, I believe it is actually more beneficial to focus on creating new habits such as praying. And that is why this Lenten season, instead of focusing on the ‘don’ts’, let us focus on the ‘do’s’- daily lent prayer. After all, Lent is a season of reflection in prayers – how much of God we have understood and included in our lives.
Pope Francis once said, “Lent comes providentially to reawaken us, shake us from our lethargy.” I hope this Lent season will be a time of spiritual revival for us. As we are refreshed and renewed, may we also remember the triumph that Easter brings. Alongside our prayers for lent, let us also offer Prayers for Easter as we rejoice and celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Join me as we start our daily habit of prayer. Here are 15 Lent Prayers to help us begin.
1. A Lent Prayer to Desire God More
Here is a lent prayer for a heart that desires God more. In this prayer, let us seek to have a heart that pursues God and long to be closer to Him.
Dear God, help me live a life of faith that is devoted to You. I want to have a heart that pursues You before anything else. You said if we seek You with all our hearts, we will find You. I long to behold Your beauty and to know Your heart even more. Align my will with Yours and help me to keep Your commands. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
2. A Lent Prayer for Strength and Discipline
This Lenten prayer seeks God’s help to strengthen us and to guide us to live a life of discipline.
Lord, I pray for strength whenever I face difficulties. I lift each worry and burden to You because I know You care for me. Remind me that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. May I gain strength from doing things that bring You joy. I also pray to live a life of discipline. Teach me how to guard the minutes and hours You’ve entrusted to me so I can use my time wisely. I pray that the desires of my heart will be aligned with Yours so I can get rid of unhealthy habits. Thank You for being my strength, protection, and provider Lord. Amen.
Philippians 4:13 I am able to do all things through him who gives me strength.
3. A Prayer for Lent to Pray As A Family
This lent prayer is for us to find time to pray as a family. We will ask God to strengthen our bond and for every family member to develop a habit of prayer.
Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of family. We know that family is our first ministry, and we ask that You strengthen our relationship and bond. May You always be in our midst, and help us to prioritize You above all else such that we can always find time to pray together. I pray that joy and peace will always be present in our household as we prioritize our time with You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

4. A Daily Lent Prayer For Yourself
Here is a personal lent prayer for ourselves. Let us seek God to help us grow in faith and change and mold us into the best version of ourselves.
Dear God, help me grow in faith and grow deeper in my relationship with You. Change me, Lord, and help me be more obedient to You. Help me get rid of the habits that don’t glorify You and mold me to be the person You desire me to be. Thank You, Father. Amen.
Luke 17:5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”.
5. A Lenten Prayer to Overcome Temptations
We know that it can be hard to resist and flee from temptation if we rely solely on our willpower. This is our lent prayer to seek the Lord’s help in saying no to temptations and sins.
Lord, I want to live a life of obedience and faithfulness to You. Help me not to fall into temptation and sin. Forgive me for the times I have stumbled, but I want to change and live by Your way. Lord, You are merciful and I know that You will not let me be tempted beyond what I can bear. I pray that You would provide a way out for me whenever I face temptation and the courage to run away from it. Whenever temptation and sin knock, help me to focus instead on Your goodness and love so I can resist them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Dear Lord, you said in Your Word that if we confess our sins to You, You are faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. I humble myself at Your feet. I acknowledge that I am a sinner, and I greatly need You. Forgive me for my disobedience and pride. I have not followed Your Word nor obeyed your commands faithfully. Change my heart, Lord, and cleanse me. Help me restore joy and renew a right spirit within me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I know that Your ways and thoughts are higher and better than mine. Help me examine my deeds and take a closer look at myself so I can change and improve. If I have habits that offend You, make them known to me, and please give me the courage and strength to get rid of them. So, help me, God. Thank You, Father. Amen.
