How’s Our God Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient?

God is impossible to describe with just a word. His Almighty Presence branches to unlimited characteristics that show love, compassion, and undefeated power. Actually, humans have no exact idea just how big and great God is. Simply put, He is too vast for any measurement to be described. As an example, in Isaiah 40:12, a description is available saying that God can measure the entire skies with just the span of His Hand! Really, there is no measurement for God’s greatness. But, there are three descriptions we can use to describe God’s nature – omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient.

Why “Omnipotent,Omnipresent, and Omniscient”?

There are so many adjectives available in the dictionary that can describe and represent something or someone. So, why are these three words chosen to represent God’s divine attributes? Among the many words in the dictionary, descriptions like these three words are only used for God. Meaning, one cannot describe a person as “omnipotent, omnipresent or omniscient”. Why? Because humans can’t have these characteristics! The prefix “Omni” means “all”. Combining these in order, the words translate to “all-powerful, all-knowing, and “all-present” or “present everywhere”. Let’s learn more about God’s divine attributes and its references in the Bible.

God Is Omnipotent

Omnipotent means “all-powerful”. Yes, we all know that God is powerful. But, the Bible gives us a clearer picture of just how powerful God is. In Genesis 1:1, 3, 6, 9, 11, 14, or the Story of Creation, we know that God is the Maker of the universe. He is the Creator of everything we see. Thus, He possesses power over everything. There is absolutely nothing God has no power over. The problem with today’s philosophies is how people connect everything to scientific theories of how the universe came to be. However, the truth is, the universe is a creation of God. He spoke the universe into existence. So, it is flawed to think that the universe has power over us. We should be reminded to trust the creator and not the creation. Here are other Biblical depictions of God’s omnipotence in the Bible:

• God Can Do Everything and Anything

Jeremiah 32:17 fills us in with how nothing is hard for God. This is absolutely true. Since God is omnipotent, He is able to do absolutely everything. There are so many stories in the Bible that depict this. For example, the story of Creation depicts God’s immense power. He can create life out of nothingness. He can also heal broken hearts, heal the sick, and give hope to the hopeless. He can make the blind see and the deaf hear. His love endures forever (Psalms 136). God’s power and kindness have no limits!

• God is More Powerful than Sin

Non-believers may argue that if God is so powerful then, why do humans still sin? If God dislikes sin, shouldn’t He just stop people from doing it? Actually, if God wanted to end all sin and sinners, He can do that in just a snap (Romans 9:18). God can take away anything anytime. But, God gives us free will (Deuteronomy 30:19 ). Meaning, God wants to see us choose Him. Have you ever wondered why God is so quick to forgive us? Put simply, there is no action or person bigger and more powerful than the Lord and His undying love. So, we should always keep our feet flat on the ground. God is power Himself. He triumphs over evil no matter what.

• God is Never Tired

Rich or poor, busy or not, humans need to sleep. We are bound to feel tired after a long day of work. But, God doesn’t rest. He never sleeps! (Isaiah 20:28) When we hear people say “God is watching you” – it’s literally true! God doesn’t need to sleep because of His immense power. Humans need to recharge to get energy, right? For God, why would He need to recharge when He Himself is energy? So, the next time your stress and worries keep you from sleep, remember this;  the Lord who loves you so much doesn’t sleep. Instead, he is working on your future so you have nothing to stress or worry about (Peter 5:7).

  God Can’t Sin

A characteristic of God’s omnipotence is how He cannot sin nor tolerate sin. God and sin are like water and oil – They completely repel each other. When someone says “believe in God”, you really should. Why? God cannot and does not lie! (Titus 1:2). You have no reason to feel doubt because if God says your future is secured and beautiful, this is the truth, for He doesn’t lie.

Another important aspect to remember is how God can’t be where sin is. Let’s look at Hell. God can’t be in Hell because God is love and love can’t be around where sin nor hate is. There is no “love” in committing sin. For a clearer picture, when humans sin, God hides His Face from them because He repels sin (Isaiah 59:2). This also explains why the more we sin, the more distant we get from God. To sum it up, God can do everything and anything except for deeds that include sin.

What Should We Do With God’s Omnipotence?

Among God’s characteristics of being omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, omnipotence describes His immeasurable power. He can do anything and everything. But, what should we do with this information? Simple. We are being told to keep calm and leave everything to the ever-powerful God we serve. Sometimes, we dwell too much on life to the point of breaking ourselves. But, God tells us that He is powerful and that He is in control.

If God is able to separate seas and move mountains, imagine how easy it is for Him to take you out of any problem you are experiencing. We lack so many things. We may think of ourselves as someone lacking talent, strength, wealth, and many more. But if we choose to remember the omnipotent God that is on our side, the omnipotent Lord that works while we are fast asleep, we can enjoy life more. True, we are chained by our limitations but, the One who is on the outside doesn’t have a limit. Why do we worry when it is the omnipotent God who is on our side, right?

God Is Omnipresent

Omnipresence or “all-present” refers to how God is everywhere. At the human level, we refer to “presence” as a condition where someone is physically available. This is why schools have attendance sheets to indicate whether someone is “present” or “absent”. But, this doesn’t work with God. He is everywhere, He is not a material that is confined within time and space. God controls time and space. To explain more, here are the Biblical records we can learn from:

• God Can Interact With History

Here’s an example. When game creators program a game, they make all the levels, characters, and know what challenges are going to face anyone playing the game. Of course, this is a given because they made the game, right? In the same manner, it is God who made the universe and its time. So, it makes sense that He can interact with time and space. Psalm 139 shows us that He knows what we are going to do before we even did it.

Jeremiah 1:5 says that God knew us before we were even formed in the womb of our mothers. Aside from this, God already has a purpose for us before we were even born! This is possible because of God’s omnipresence. He has already seen the future while being in the past. When we say that God is immortal, aside from the fact that He can’t die because He is immutable, we are also referring to how God is present before, now, and for eternity! Also, this answers why the Bible is the framework for the future and a historical record about the past because God has been present before He created time.

  God Is With Us

In Isaiah 7:14, Jesus is given a Biblical name which is “Immanuel”. This name means “God is with us”. But, how is God with us? Genesis 26:3 is the answer. In this Bible verse, God tells us that He is “with” us in a declarative tone. This is a promise out of love for every single human being. God is so vast and immeasurable that His presence can cover everyone’s timeline. Unlike humans, God does not need to be present in one body one moment at a time to be present. He’s everywhere in space and in time. Remember how God never sleeps? Another reason why this is possible is that He is omnipresent! Awake or not, happy or sad, with or without problems, God is with you.

• God Is Within Everything

This is a beautiful message about omnipresence everyone should know. God is within everything – From the Earth’s natural structure to the problems we are facing that will later reveal itself as a blessing and even ourselves! Yes, God is present in everything, including our very selves. In Galatians 2:20, Paul said that Jesus lives within him. God is actually within us, we only have to allow Him to take over our lives and guide us towards righteousness.

2 Corinthians 13:5 is also another message around this subject. Paul asked the Corinthians “Or do you not realize about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you?”. The Bible then projects great emphasis on taking care of our bodies and being pure because we ourselves are temples of the Spirit of God. So, the next time you feel bad about yourself, remember that God is within you only if you choose to let Him take over. You are definitely born for greatness!

• Combining Omniscience and Omnipotence

Because He can do anything and everything while being everywhere all the time, God can alter our future and decide on what’s best for us. This is what we call the Will of God. His Will exists for us to follow because He can manipulate everything about what comes and goes in our lives while maintaining His presence. Actually, the omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient nature of the Lord is perfectly synchronous to ensure the perfection of His Will. So, everything that is under the Will of God has God. This is why we should give importance to listening to what God has to say instead of listening to the desires of the flesh.

What Should We Do With God’s Omnipresence?

Again, what do we do with this information? God is omnipotent, omnipresent. omniscient, now what?

Do you remember the times when you feel alone? When the world seems to completely turn its back against you and you feel like you’re the only one who’s able to see your existence and feelings? Well, knowing God’s omnipresence allow us to understand that this was never the case. God can’t be absent in your life. In fact, He dwells within your life. God can never have mistakes nor absences as He is omniscient. So, the mistake is really up to us. God can’t be absent, we just need to seek Him. Humans are never alone, we just tend to convince ourselves that we are. But, how can we be alone when it’s in God’s nature to never be absent? So, stand up and live happily for the Lord is literally and spiritually with you.

God Is Omniscient

Omniscient means “all-knowing” (all + “science” or “knowledge). From its basic word origin, it means God knows everything. With omnipotence, we gather that God’s power is universal but, with omniscience, we confirm that also His knowledge is universal. How “universal” is  God’s knowledge? Just like any of His abilities, it is too immense to be measured by numbers or even by words. However, here are some records found of the Bible depicting this:

God Witnesses Everything

In Genesis 4:10, God knew Cain killed Abel. No human eye was able to witness this but, God knew it right away. This is also similar to the story of Adam and Eve. Of course, this also applies to our lives. We cannot hide anything from God. If we connect this with the omnipresence and omnipotence He possesses, we know that God can see everything everywhere every second.

God Knows Every Event

Because of God’s omnipresence and omniscience, He can know every event from the past and the future. No history can hide from the Eyes of the Lord. Psalm 139:4 depicts this. The Bible verse writes that before a single word can ever be uttered, God already knows everything that is going to happen. Time and everything that circles it is controlled and made by God.

God Knows Everything About You

Even when you don’t know yourself, God knows every single part of your existence. Psalm 139:1-6 reveals how God knows the moment we sit down and rise. See, the Lord knows every corner of our hearts. He calls us not by our sin but, by our names. He wants what is best for us, He knows what will make us happy before we can ever determine what these are. This is why it’s important to follow God’s Will. His knowledge can never be inaccurate. We may not understand it today but, God places us in situations because He knows it is for our benefit.

What Should We Do With God’s Omniscience?

God’s omniscience should remind us of how His Will is absolute. God knows you. He knows what’s going to hurt you, make you smile, encourage you, and heal you. He has been doing everything to put you in a place under His Grace and blessings. For your part, you only need to believe in the Will of God. Humans can only predict but, the Lord can leap through time and He knows the success He is going to bring you. All you need to do is rest still. If God knows you are meant for good, no one except your deeds can take that away from you. Would you depend on your limited understanding or would you choose the omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient nature of the Lord?

Serving God and His Power

The Lord with His omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient attributes is more than just a depiction of God’s limitless power. These are tools we can use to remember just how strong and mighty God is. Have you seen how children fear nothing when they know their parents are watching them? Children are aware of how their parents are never going to leave them. Hopefully, we learn and reflect on God’s nature enough to completely trust Him. After all, we are talking about the Creator and the Savior of this universe. Trusting God is the best decision we can ever make for ourselves.
