Our sons are a blessing from God. The Lord made us parents to teach us what it means to love patiently and selflessly. And as parents, it is our duty to raise our sons up to fear the Lord. However, parenting is not easy and often, we may find ourselves at a crossroads, not knowing how to help them. That is why prayers for sons are so important. Our sons are not just ours, they are God’s children too. What, then, makes a good prayer for my son? How do I give my son a blessing through prayer? What can I pray for my son? How do I pray for my boy?

Praying for children is one of the best things you can do as a parent. But when we pray, parents let’s pray not just with a genuine heart but also with the scriptures. After all, nothing delights God more than hearing us speak to Him with His words. Let us pray for our sons this National Son Day.

Notable Sons in the Bible

What is a good bible verse for my son? Luke 15:11-32 teaches us the parable of the Prodigal Son, who returns to his family after being humbled by the hardships of the world. While the Prodigal Son makes a clear learning point about humility, it also reminds about God’s unconditional love and forgiveness that parents like us have to learn. The Bible also teaches us about Cain and Abel, the sons of Adam. Whereas Cain was lacking in his glory to God, our sons can learn from Abel, who pleased God for his unwavering faith (Hebrews 11:4).

1. A Short Prayer for My Son

Offer the Lord this prayer for today, humbly asking that He fills our sons’ day with His grace and mercy.

Dear Lord, thank You for giving my son another day to glorify You. I pray for Your grace to bless my son as he goes about his day. From his morning to his evenings, I pray that my son always feels Your presence with him. 2. A Birthday Prayer for My Son

Offer a blessing prayer for your son on his birthday, remembering to thank God for all the blessings you and your family have received.

Almighty Father, thank You for the countless blessings You continue to shower my son with. As I celebrate my son on his birthday, I praise and glorify You with gratitude in my heart. Thank You for giving me another year to be a father to my son. Indeed, thank You for another year of Your blessings for him. Psalm 86:11-12 Teach me your way, LORD, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.

3. A Protection Prayer for My Son

With this prayer, we ask God to continue protecting our sons from all forms of harm, especially temptations. 

Father in heaven, I offer this prayer for my son’s protection from the temptations of the evil one. Watch over my son, Lord, and grant him the grace of Your protective embrace. Deliver him from the evil one. May he be mindful and keep Your words in his heart when he is being tempted. Steel his mind against the deceit of the devil. 4. A Healing Prayer for My Son With Depression

Offer this prayer for healing from depression, asking for Him to mend the wounds our sons may be carrying. May they find peace in their recovery from depression, because all wounds are healed by God’s hand.

Dear God, I pray that Your light reaches the depths of my son’s deepest and darkest wounds. Please heal his heart, mind, and spirit, for only You can truly give him the peace and comfort he seeks. I offer a prayer for my depressed son, humbly asking for Your uplifting grace to save him from this condition. 5. A Prayer for My Son’s Health

We pray for our sons to live healthy lives free of any affliction that may burden them. May they always remain healthy, empowered by God to continue carrying out His word.

Christ the Father, today I offer a prayer for my son’s health, humbly asking You keep him in Your protective embrace. I pray that his life be free of ailments. May his sufferings be kept at a minimum, so long as You will it. With You his constant source of power, I know that my son will remain healthy for the rest of his days. 6. A Prayer of Strength for My Son

With this prayer for strength and guidance, we ask God to lend our sons His strength so that they are able to overcome any challenges they face.

Dearest God, though my son continues to face trial after trial, the worry in my heart diminishes, for I am at ease knowing his resilience is empowered by Your strength. Truly, we are all capable of anything, for we are all strengthened by Your grace. And, I pray that my son never forgets this, that he is strong because You are right at his side, lending him Your strength unconditionally. My son can overcome any mountain because he is strengthened by his faith and Your love. 7. A Prayer for My Son: Prayer for Wisdom

We pray for our sons to always be guided by God’s wisdom, so that they are able to make the right decisions in life. May they have the discernment to determine right from wrong, good from evil.

God Almighty, thank You for the blessing of Your wisdom, and for blessing my son to be a wise and intelligent follower in Christ. We pray that he always carries Your wisdom with him, so that he is able to discern right from wrong and always choose good over evil. 8. A Prayer of Encouragement for My Son

The greatest words of encouragement for a son are delivered through prayer. Offer this encouragement prayer for today, praying over your son to remain steadfast in his faith despite the struggles that challenge him.

Dearest Lord in heaven, may Your words encourage my son today. . Grant him the resilience he needs to move forward and not be crippled by the fear of failure that holds him back. 9. A Prayer for My Son: Prayer for Success

We all want our sons to succeed in life. We pray for our sons to reach success as they remain faithful to the Lord, for He will always reward those who glorify Him.

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing my son with the skills and talents he has today. In his pursuit of success, I pray that my son never loses sight of what truly matters: his faith in You. Continue being his guiding light as he works tirelessly towards his plans for the future. Let this be a stepping stone towards the glory he can attain through You. As parents, it is our duty to raise our sons to be God-fearing followers. May our sons always remain faithful to God, for it is their faith in Him that will bring them salvation.

Dear God, as we raise our son to be Your faithful follower, we pray he continues to remain steadfast, especially with the evils that aim to disturb his faith in You. We pray for his faith; may his faith never waver, even in the face of adversity. To our son, we pray that you never forget to prioritize the Lord above all else. Lord, I pray for my sons to find courage in You in times of uncertainty. Grant them valor to push past injustices and clear the path of righteousness for others. Lend them Your courage to deny the evils that attempt to sway them. Shine Your light on my sons, so that the fear that grips their heart fades to make way for bravery instead. As we welcome our son-in-law into the family, we offer a prayer for peace and harmony, so that we may all stand united as one unit brought together by Christ.

Today we pray for our son-in-law, that he is able to settle into our family as we welcome him with open arms. We pray that we are able to bring him the same comfort and love he finds with others.
