The face of a father is calm, patient, and caring. Sometimes, they come home with a handful of problems and frustrations from work and still greet their children with a face of stability and strength. Today, we venture into their world with these Bible verses about fathers. Fathers did not just come into the lives of their families without a purpose. In celebration of that, here’s what the Bible tells us about fathers!

Fathers have a heavy responsibility to provide for his family which may be pressurizing at times. Some fathers have also admitted that they experience episodes of anxiety and stress without wanting to express these emotions. Still, fathers insist on becoming the rock of the family. Among all the marvelous creations the Lord has given the world, fathers are undoubtedly one of them.

God Is Our Heavenly Father

The first set of Bible verses about fathers is no other than God who creates all things.  Sometimes, we overlook the fact that God is and will always be our Father aside from being the only God we serve. If we stop and take the time to remember all the fatherly actions the Lord has blessed us with, we come to understand that He is the Perfect Father, and we are His children. As children of God, we have to obey our father just as we should obey our earthly father. Since Fathers’ Day is coming closer, let’s encourage our fathers to pursue characteristics of God’s example of fatherly love. Here are some Bible verses about fathers describing the love of our heavenly Father.

The Father Created You:

  • 1 Corinthians 8:6 “Yet for us, there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through who are all things and through whom we exist”.
  • Matthew 6:26 “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they”?

Just like our biological fathers, let’s not forget that the Lord made everything, including our lives. When we think about how precious our individual lives are, we see that God didn’t stop giving us blessings from the time we were born! In these Bible verses about fathers, we see that aside from our lives, God gave us a home and a family to cherish our lives with. If we read more onto Matthew 6:26, God wants to remind us of our value as His creation. The Lord feeds animals who do not sow, reap nor gather into barns, as His creation, you are more than just valued- you are created with love (Psalm 139:14).

The Father Loves You:

  • John 3:16  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life”.
  • Matthew 7:9-11 “Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!”.

In reality, we all know that not everyone has a father who has been there during their childhood. While that is a sad reality, there is one thing we are absolutely sure of; we all have the same Father in Heaven who loves us with all His Heart. It’s easy to feel defeated or unwanted, but just as how a son returns to his father after a long day, the Almighty Father is a home we can always come back to. There are so many mysteries on the surface of the world but a father’s love is no mystery when they express it.

The Father Trusts You:

  • Malachi 2:10“Have we, not all one Father? Has not one God created us? Why then are we faithless to one another, profaning the covenant of our fathers?”.
  • Hebrews 12:7“It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?”.

Like a biological father who expects his children to grow righteously and successfully, God also wants us to be the best version of ourselves. Imagine, because of His great love, the Lord allowed the existence of the Bible, sent people who will show us the right path and provided us laws so we can never be led astray from Him. Why? Because using all He has given to us, He trusts us to live our lives in the correct paths; to never be corrupted by evil. God knows us so well and has made all the preparations so we may stay safe. That’s the kind of Father our God is.

The Father Is With You:

  • Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go”.

When we were children, whenever we went to malls or parks, there’s a certain feeling of protection we had from knowing that our fathers are with us, right? Similarly, we can have comfort in knowing God is always here for us. Awake or sleeping, God never shuts His eyes from our daily lives. Just like our biological dads whenever we get a scar or a bruise, God hurts when we get hurt.

The Mission Behind Fatherhood

Being a father is a great mission. In these Bible verses about fathers, we tackle all the responsibilities endowed to each father as they become the building block and the foundational rock of their families. Here are a few bible verses that explain what fatherhood is supposed to be about, what fatherhood should look like.

Fathers Are Teachers

  • Proverbs 20:7” The righteous who walks in his integrity— blessed are his children after him!”.
  • 1 Timothy 3:5 “For if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?”.

Values like self-confidence, resilience, respect, and kindness are things a father should teach to his child. Fathers are one of the important faces a child is exposed to. With that being said, he or she is going to grow up with their dads as one of their many inspirations. Because of this, a father is expected to guide his child on the right path for them to grow up following God. According to the study of sociology, the family is the smallest unit of society and as its head, fathers are given this very important task.

A Good Father Is A Great Husband

  • Ephesians 5:25-33 “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way, husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church”

Before a father becomes a father, he first becomes a husband. Matrimony is one of the Lord’s most precious blessings. With this, a man who becomes a father must first begin by being a good husband. He should respect and take care of his wife, he should love his woman as what the Lord has commanded him to do. Being a husband and a father is like becoming a shield and a sword in a war, it is them who gets to protect their families while fighting for their futures.

A Father Is A Booster

  • Ephesians 6:4 “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord”.
  • Colossians 3:21 “Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged”.

These Bible verses about fathers explain how they are “boosters”. Every child takes a lot of involvement from their fathers. Because of this, it is essential for every father to understand that every word they utter and every “you did a great job” means a lot to the development of a child’s self-esteem. But, we all know that fathers are one of the most supportive people we can ever have in our lives. So, it’s just right that we appreciate them too!

A Father Provides

  • Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it”.
  • 1 Timothy 5:8 “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever”.

Fathers have this image of being the provider of the household. However, in these Bible verses about fathers, we learn that they are responsible for providing not just money, but, wisdom and righteousness. Financial stability is just one of the pillars a father is working for. Deep inside, fathers know that they are tasked to lead the way for their children. We are the spitting image of our childhood and it is our father’s job to make sure that’s comfortable, morally-rich, and memorable.

Being One Is A Blessing

  • Psalm 128:3 “Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table”.

Of course, being a father is not just all about endless and heavy responsibilities! Just as this tells us, fatherhood is not a punishment but, a wonderful and priceless blessing from the Lord. When someone becomes a father, he becomes the first man to introduce a human life to the Lord’s love, he is tasked to speak of God’s Love as his children grow up with dignity and compassion. This is every father’s desire and responsibility.

A Father’s Great Love

Although some fathers choose not to show it, the love they have for their children is never fading and unquestionable. Most of the time, our fathers would choose the comfort of their family than their needs. They would choose not to get the things they need for the things their children want. A father’s love is not measured by how wealthy and full his pockets are. Instead, his love is seen in his faithfulness to his family and his quiet but insistent desire to become the best version he can be. Here are Bible verses about fathers’ love and how they are one of the sweetest things ever!

You Are Your Father’s Happiness

  • Luke 15:20 “And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him”.
  • 3 John 1:4 “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth”.

No one likes to work for long hours, stuck in a stressful environment with multiple deadlines, right? But, our fathers do this because they love us. Our fathers feel a great sense of accomplishment whenever they see us living with dignity and ease. It might sound like a given but, our fathers are doing everything in their strength to see us happy because it makes them happier. This kind of love is precious and should not be underappreciated.

Love Is Righteous

  • Proverbs 3:11-12 “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights”.
  • Proverbs 14:26 “In the fear of the Lord, one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge”.
  • Joshua 24:15 “And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.

Though our fathers love us, they also need to provide disciplinary actions at times where we do wrong. It may seem tough, but they have to ask, educate, or even scold their children as a way for them to express their love. Absolutely, no father would like the sight of seeing their children stray away from what it is right. It pains them to see us fall or suffer not because they think their efforts are wasted but because it’s the last thing they’d want to experience happening to the person they love the most. Your dad wishes for your success. He wants you to live right to the extent where you are able to stand alone without forgetting God’s Words.

Every Child’s Mission

The relationship between a father and his children isn’t something one-sided. As children, we are also recipients of our missions towards our families and our fathers. We must keep in mind that our responsibilities do not start and end when they reach the time of old age. Every day, we are responsible for how we act and think towards our parents. Let us not waste their love because of our negligence to our duties as children. Here’s what the Holy Bible tells us about this:

Listening Is A Responsibility

  • Proverbs 23:22 “Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old”.
  • Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.”

We are tasked to listen to our parents. If you are familiar with the feeling of getting betrayed or being unloved, fathers are one of the very few people you can talk to with ease without feeling unwanted or unloved. Sometimes, we need to take a step in establishing a better relationship between us and our fathers. If we want to hear the words of someone who spent his whole life working so your life is working better and easier, your father is the perfect fit for that.

Listen to your father, he wouldn’t say anything that would bring you down because he loves you so much (although sometimes he’s afraid to show it!).

Father - Daughter

Following Pleases God

  • Ephesians 6:1-3 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”
  • Colossians 3:20 “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord”.
  • Hebrews 12:11 “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it”.

One of the greatest pillars of why we should honor our parents is because God wants us to. The Lord is against actions that are harmful, painful, and unright to other people. Now, having a father that witnesses and cherishes our lives from the very start is a blessing not everyone can experience. So, if you are amongst the people who have this blessing, do not waste it. God has blessed you with one of life’s greatest gifts.

Knowing now what these Bible verses about fathers tell us, we should appreciate, thank and love the existence of our fathers. They have done so much for our comfort and needs. So, do celebrate and take a little time to show the man who you can always count on, a little love and gratitude. Above all, do not forget to thank God for being the best Father who will never fail nor forsake you. Let us make every day fathers’ day for our fathers chose to live every day a “for you” day!
